J. Davis Powell is licensed to practice law in both Louisiana and Mississippi and has a primary practice involving oil and gas law and associated property issues for land, mineral and royalty owners. A 2001 graduate of Millsaps College in Jackson, MS and a 2005 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law in Oxford, MS, Davis is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, the Mississippi Bar Association and currently serves as a board member for the National Association of Royalty Owners – Louisiana Chapter.
Bruce Harrell, CPA, is native to and has been practicing public accountancy since the 1970’s in the TMS area. He and his firm are licensed to practice in both LA and MS. Throughout his career, Bruce has advised farmers, landowners, and oil and gas clients and is a land, timber and mineral owner himself. He plans to cover considerations that taxpayers should be aware of and plan for as they begin to receive income from the TMS. He will give an overview of the federal and state tax issues you might need to be aware, and even give some examples of what he has experienced as the activity of TMS has affected his client base and himself.

He is a 1983 graduate of LSU with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, was awarded the Accountant Advocate of the Year by the State of Mississippi, Small Business Administration in 1997 and is the 2014 recipient of the Mississippi Society of CPAs Public Service Award.

Chad A. Lindsey, Financial Advisor, has been with Raymond James Financial Services for 17 years and serves on the Executive Council of Raymond James Financial Institution’s Division. He has a finance degree with a secondary interest in accounting from the University of Southern MS. Tom Lewis is president of Liberty Insurance Agency, Inc with offices in Liberty and Gloster, Mississippi. In addition, Mr. Lewis has served as Amite County Chancery Clerk and City Administrator for the Town of Centreville. Mr. Lewis is also a farmer, landowner and avid record keeper, including pictorial records. As owner of the pad site for the Lewis 18-7H-1 well, he is here today to share pictures from survey marker to first truck load of oil and provide insight into what he learned along the way.
Christopher T. Shannon, was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2005 and has been working in the oil patch since 2008 as both a landsman and an attorney. He has worked on oil and gas matters in multiple jurisdictions and plays across North America. He received his undergraduate degree in Engineering from Texas A&M University and his JD from the University of Houston Law Center. Chris is a member of College of the State Bar of Texas; the State Bar of Texas: Oil, Gas, and Energy Resources Law Section; the Houston Bar Association: Oil, Gas and Mineral Law Section; the American Association of Petroleum Landsmen; and the Houston Association of Petroleum Landsmen. Benjamin J. Waring, JD CPL is Managing Member of Arpent Energy, LLC, a company out of New Orleans that invests in minerals and royalties in Louisiana and Mississippi, mainly in the Haynesville and Tuscaloosa Marine Shale plays.
He has been a consulting oil and gas landsman since the 1970’s, runs Waring & Associates Corp, a consulting company, and Energy Data Solutions, LLC, owner of OCS Bulletin Board website.
His company handles private and negotiated sales of oil and gas properties, including work with www.TMShorizons.com; onshore and offshore land and legal work with all agencies involved in Mississippi, Louisiana and the federal portion of the Gulf of Mexico; software mapping and reporting and internet applications specializing in energy information for the federal portion of the Gulf of Mexico; land and mineral consulting to help owners maximize their property value.
Ben attended Tulane University and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University. He is a Certified Professional Landman with a law degree from Loyola Law School. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Professional Landsmen’s Association of New Orleans and is active in the American Petroleum Institute’s Delta Chapter, having served as Past Chairman. As a father of twin 23 year olds in college, Ben lives in New Orleans with his wife of 26 years, Kathleen.
Peter Tesarek is General Manager and founder of private partnerships that invest in oil & gas mineral rights in emerging shale reservoirs, currently focusing on the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale. These include MP2 TMS, LP, MP3 LA TMS, LP, MT GP, LLC and Comite Creek Land, LLC.
He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Rice University and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University and has more than 20-years of experience in the oil and gas industry in drilling, production and reservoir engineering, business development, finance and supply chain. He began his career with BP and has worked with Exxon, Saudi Aramco and Hess.
As Senior Manager of Global Supply Chain, Mr. Tesarek Implemented Lean processes, both internally and with suppliers, to enable Hess’s move to an unconventionals business model in the Bakken in North Dakota. His efforts resulted in reduced cycle times, improved and standardized contract price compliance from near-zero to greater-than-80% and a rationalized supplier base.
He is currently consulting with Halliburton Energy Services on their CYPHERSM Seismic-to-Stimulation Service suite of tools.
Unsatisfied with the win-lose dynamics of mineral rights transaction, in 2013, Mr. Tesarek founded the Louisiana TMS royalty cooperative to provide a unique method for mineral owners to diversify their assets / resources across the entire Louisiana portion of the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale.
Key Smith is an advisor at Natchez Wealth Management where he assists clients in retirement and estate planning, portfolio management and comprehensive financial planning. Key graduated cum laude from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor degree magna cum laude from the University of the Mississippi School of Law. After law school he practiced securities defense with a large law firm in Birmingham, AL representing Fortune 500 broker dealers and insurance companies. Key is active in the Natchez community and is an avid outdoorsman.

Brandon Creel operates an Allstate Insurance Agency in Franklinton, Louisiana. A 1992 graduate of Mississippi College, he has been active in the family business, Magee Feed Home and Garden with locations in McComb and Crystal Springs, MS and Franklinton, LA. As a mineral owner in the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale with ownership under a permitted drilling unit, Brandon is acutely aware of the opportunities and challenges facing mineral owners in the play.
