Shut Down Production Loss from TMS Wells

Posted by bernell on August 25, 2014

Producing wells in the TMS have to be occasionally shut down temporarily for things like fracking of nearby wells or replacing a pump.

An interesting attribute of these wells is that production appears to catch up after these shut downs.

I don't know if this is common in shale plays, but based on a limited number of production numbers I have seen it is true here.

For example, a well is making 100 barrels per day, then it shuts down for 10 days, the next 10 days production will average out to about 200 barrels per day.

Actually, it probably takes it less than a week to catch up, but you get the point.

It a well shuts down in the last 10 days of a month, that month's check will be cut short, but the next month's check will catch up.

If a wells shuts down in the first 10 days of the month, you won't even notice it.

Kinda neat.

Does anyone know if this is common?

What do you think about it?
